Today is the first Sunday of Advent and to remind us, we light the first candle in our advent wreath. But what is "advent"?

With the commercialization of the Christmas season,  the true meaning and spiritual understanding of this four week period preceding the birth of Our Savior Jesus has been lost. And with it, much of our joy during this special time.

Today is the first of four messages that shine a spotlight on Advent, allowing us to focus on the real meaning of Jesus's "coming" (which is what "advent" means.) we will be challenged to personally contemplate our answers to three questions:

  1. What did it mean for God to come in human form to earth?
  2. How has accepting Jesus as my Savior changed my life?
  3. How often do I think about the fact that Jesus is coming back some day?

As you prepare for the celebration of Jesus' birth on Christmas day, we encourage you - beginning December 1 - to read one chapter of the Gospel of Luke each day. The 24 chapters of Luke will become your personal, Biblical advent calendar!
