There are hundreds of names given to Jesus in the Bible. Yet all of the names combined cannot begin to capture all of who Jesus is and what He's done for us! The more we understand His names, the better we come to know Him.

Last Sunday, we examined one name - Immanuel - which means "God with Us". This week, we examine another name - Firstborn. We'll learn that Firstborn in the Bible has significant meaning and designates very special, priority, superiority, highest of high. And, we'll learn what Jesus as Firstborn means for us as members of HIs body, the Church.

In many ways today's sermon is been a theology lesson. These can somtimes be difficult to apply. Below, are some suggestions - please take time this week to meditate on these truths about the person of Christ:

First, look at Jesus and see the God who cannot be seen.  Everything that we see in Jesus is true of God Himself.

Second, look at Jesus and see God’s original purpose in everything He created.

Third, realize that absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank of angels – everything got started in Jesus and finds its purpose in Him.

Fourth, understand that Jesus holds together the church and organizes it like a head does a body.

Fifth, consider what Paul says in Romans 8:31, “So what do you think?  With God on our side like this, how can we lose?

If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing Himself to the worst by sending His Son, is there anything else He wouldn’t gladly or freely do for us?”
